Jazz big man to miss extended time

The injury took place when Heat guard Dion Waiters, while hustling for a loose ball, dove recklessly into Gobert's legs. The Jazz would ultimately lose that game due to a costly turnover by Gobert in the final minute, which led to a corner three by Jamal Crawford.

Rudy Gobert limped to the locker room on Friday vs. the Heat with an apparent right knee injury. The 7-1 Frenchman called Waiters out for the "dirty play".

He also did some not so subtle subtweeting.

"It feels better than it looked on the video", he said.

Waiters fell into Gobert after a scramble for a rebound turned into him chasing a loose ball. "I went for the ball, making a basketball play". He [goes] right to social media.

"I've never been a dirty player in my life", Waiters said, per the Miami Herald's Andre C. Fernandez. At the end of the day, that (expletive) don't matter. "I'm not a dirty player". If he thought it was a dirty play, you come to me as a man and you ask me and I'll tell him the same [expletive] I'm saying now.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Sunday although hoping no one would get hurt, he liked Waiters' aggressiveness on that play.

Gobert, averaging 13.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game so far this season, still recorded a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) against Miami despite suffering the injury.

And now, regardless of intent, the Jazz will be without their best player for arguably the toughest stretch of their season.
