Primary election day in Nebraska

- The winners of Tuesday's primaries advance to compete in the November 6 general election.

The Deadline to register to vote in this election is Monday, May 21, 2018.

Some of the big races include United States senate and house, and the governor's race.

Those who have not voted yet can still return their ballot by 8 p.m.to a ballot drop site. If you are a registered Virginia voter but do not have an acceptable photo ID, free voter photo IDs are processed at all of Virginia's 133 local general registrars' offices. Numerous races feature crowded, hotly contested primaries. You can find your polling place here if you are unsure.

- Voters must be affiliated with the Republican Party in order to vote in the Republican primaries.

As far as local elections go, the biggest attention-getters are the Corvallis School District's $200 million bond measure and the six-way Democratic primary for the chance to succeed the retiring Anne Schuster on the Benton County Board of Commissioners.

As the first statewide regular election since the 2017 inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, the primary is also widely seen as a referendum on which candidates are appealing to GOP voters. We urge you to keep democracy alive by voting, so please do vote in this election.
