Off-Duty Cop Saves The Day During Mother's Day Celebration In Brazil

This is the moment a gunman's attempted robbery on young children and families was foiled by a waiting mother - who turned out to be an off-duty armed policewoman.

The suspect fired his weapon, a.38 caliber revolver, once into the crowd. "She shoots, the boy shoots, the boy tries to shoot at her leg", Brazilian public security secretary Maggie Alves said.

She appears to give the gunman - who is clearly in pain - orders to lie on his stomach.

We know first-hand that censorship against conservative news is real.

Little did the gunman know, Sastre was carrying a pistol of her own and shot Moreira three times in the chest, according to the Daily Mail.

On Sunday, Sastre was commended in a ceremony by Sao Paulo governor Márcio França, who applauded her "dexterity, technique and courage" in dealing with the potentially very risky situation. Sastre is a mother to two daughters, ages 2 and 7.

The school was set to hold a Mother's Day event when the armed robbery attempt occurred.

She took refuge behind a parked vehicle as he writhed in agony on the floor before approaching him again when she realised he was no longer a danger and disarming him wearing her civilian clothes of jeans, white T-shirt and a pink top.

"I reverted to the training I have received in the corporation".

"It's gratifying to have saved lives", she added, quoted in the local newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.

Katia sprang into action outside the school in Suzano, which is part of the Metropolitan region of Sao Paulo, on Saturday as it celebrated an event to mark Mother's Day which falls on May 13 in Brazil.

"The first shot ricocheted and got lost". A police spokesman said: 'These criminals lose control easily.

"She just thought about defending the parents, the children, herself and her daughter".
