What ushered in the colder weather was a storm front that came through early Friday morning. There also were several reports of large hail with these storms. Movement was east at 45 miles per hour.

A few isolated to widely scattered showers and storms are possible this morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The possibility of strong storms through Monday evening has prompted the Storm Prediction Center to issue a severe thunderstorm watch for KVOE listeners.

That's particularly for areas to the north and west of Long Island, said Carlie Buccola, weather service meteorologist in Upton.

Chicagoans can expect a break from the rain Sunday, but should prepare for possible severe thunderstorms overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

"The thunderstorms will be capable of intense downpours, frequent lightning, hail, and wind gusts over 40 miles per hour", according to NY NJ PA Weather.

MONDAY: Showers and thunderstorms late. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low of about 56.

Rainfall totals are expected to be about half an inch, with some areas seeing more because of storms. Highs Tuesday are forecast in the low to mid 80's.
