American Christians Celebrate Historic Opening of US Embassy in Jerusalem

An anti-gay, pro-Trump pastor from Dallas will give the opening prayer Monday night at the introduction ceremony of the new United States embassy in Jerusalem.

TOM GJELTEN, BYLINE: The invitation to give the opening prayer at the embassy opening in Jerusalem went to Robert Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dallas.

"Robert Jeffress says 'you can't be saved by being a Jew, ' and 'Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell, '" Senate candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney wrote on Twitter Sunday night.

Jeffress also once said that "the dark dirty secret of Islam ..."

"You don't have the right to call someone else a bigot for believing the words of Jesus Christ", Jeffress added, as Starnes asserted that Romney has just "smeared" millions of Christians "as religious bigots" with his attack on Jeffress.

Some might remember Jeffress for his frequent condemnations of Mormonism as a "cult" during the 2012 presidential campaign and his urging of Christians not to vote for Mitt Romney, a Mormon, during the Republican primary. "Islam is a false religion and if you follow the tenants of it, you will end up in hell when you die", he said. Israeli soldiers shot and killed dozens Palestinians during mass protests along the Gaza border on Monday. "No one comes to the Father but through me'".

Trump has been criticized for announcing plans to relocate the embassy and for formally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"As a Christian, I am called to stand with the Jewish people, so I will always remain an unapologetic supporter of the free and democratic State of Israel", Jentezen Franklin, senior pastor of Free Chapel Worship Center and its satellite campuses in Gainesville, Georgia, told Breitbart News. Supposed LGBTQ allies Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner were happy participants in the event.

Jeffress said in a February 6, 2017, video posted on his church's website that "the truth everyone headed to hell has rejected is that Jesus Christ is the only means by which a person may be saved". Then, he said he will thank God "for the strong leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu" because he "is determined to protect his people". Hagee said the new embassy made a clear statement: "Let every Islamic terrorist hear this message: 'Israel lives'".

Laurie said in Psalms 122:6 Christians are commanded to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" - "May those who love you be secure". "This is another example of promise made, promise kept".

In the past decade, Jeffress has assumed a prominent role in conservative politics, appearing frequently on Fox News and urging in sermons and on television to elect a Christian as president.
