Sam Allardyce: "Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave"

He spent 13 seasons at Manchester United after signing from Everton as an 18-year-old, becoming their record goalscorer and winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Reports on Thursday claimed the former England captain has already agreed a deal with Major League Soccer side DC United.

Rooney would join DC United when the U.S. transfer window opens in July, and Neville insists it would be a beneficial move for the former England captain.

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that D.C. United have expressed an interest in Wayne Rooney, but stressed the forward has not asked to leave Everton. I think his career in England was ideal.

The uncertainty over Sam Allardyce's position at Goodison Park has apparently sparked Rooney to consider his options, and it seems the 32-year-old feels it may be time to move away from the English top flight. They have two slots available for "designated players" - players who earn more than the standard MLS wage - and are keen to secure a marquee striker.

"You have had Gerrard, Lampard, Vieira now Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) and Wayne".

Wayne Rooney could be set for a remarkable switch to America with DC United.

Rooney returned to Everton last July on a free transfer from Manchester United, but his dream return to Goodison Park has been a mixed one.

Rooney has made 491 appearances in the Premier League so far, scoring 208 goals and assisting a further 111 strikes.

"Of course he will bring the attention that MLS needs to attract more people, to steal some people from the other sports that more Americans like".

"I really enjoyed him at Everton when he was young - and I enjoyed him at United - he helped me a lot at United".

"I'm comfortable with any player who wants to leave but let's put this right, Wayne Rooney hasn't asked to leave".
