BCCI announces India's squads for Afghanistan, Ireland, England series

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishant Sharma, who are now playing county cricket for Yorkshire and Sussex, were both part of the India squad, with neither of their teams in action in the week of the Test match.

Skipper Virat Kohli, who is set to play for Surrey in the month of June, is not included in the Test side while the ODI and T20I teams have some major changes. However, unlike his compatriot Ashwin, Kohli has chose to ply his trade in the County Championships with Sussex as previously decided.

Speaking about the team, which was picked here on Tuesday along with four other teams, MSK Prasad, chairman of the senior selection committee, said: "Except Virat, the other Test specialists are playing this match". He's going out so that he comes well prepared for the England series.

The Ranji Trophy performances of Mayank Agarwal and Rajneesh Gurbani were only good enough for berths in the India-A teams while Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill, stars from India's U-19 World Cup triumph, were called up to the A side for the one-day tri-series.

"He's very keen that the Indian team [does well in England] and he himself wants to do extremely well in English conditions". Both games will be played in Dublin on June 27 and 29.

The triple century maker in his debut Test against England in late 2016, Karun Nair, is in news again for capturing place created due to Kohli's absence.

However, it is highly unlikely that Nair will get a look-in in the playing XI against Afghanistan. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishant Sharma, who are now playing in English county, have managed to retain their places in Test squad.

The wrist-spinners are expected to provide stiff competition to Ashwin and Jadeja, who still remain the frontrunners for Test spots, in England, a source close to the Indian team management told the newspaper. Besides Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are not in the squad.

Similarly, opener KL Rahul has been rewarded for his 471 runs and a strike rate of under 160 and replaces Manish Pandey in the team. The back-up pacer in the squad is Shardul Thakur.

In the T20I setup, Suresh Raina and Pandey continue to be trusted to shore up the middle-order, while Umesh Yadav - who has been amongst the wickets in IPL 2018 - makes a comeback after last featuring in the shortest format in Sri Lanka in 2012. Shami, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma and Shardul Thakur in the mix.

For ODIs against England: Kohli (captain), Dhawan, Rohit, Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, A Rayudu, Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Karthik, Chahal, Kuldeep, Sundar, Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah, H Pandya, Kaul, U Yadav.
