Trump to add Belichick to presidential sports council

President Donald Trump will appoint Bill Belichick and Herschel Walker to his Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, reports Axios' Jonathan Swan.

Trump had signed an executive order in February to slightly shift the objective of the council so that it's more focused on encouraging kids to take up sports.

The full White House announcement can be read here. In 2016, Belichick penned a letter to Trump congratulating him on his presidential campaign.

Trump has appointed a host of celebrities to sit on the council that will focus on encouraging kids to play sports. "My comments are not politically motivated".

The naming of the council's members comes several months after Trump signed an executive order shuffling the name of the body so the word "sports" came first. The physical fitness of children in our country is an apolitical issue that is extremely important to our future.

Now, it appears as if Trump and Belichick probably discussed something else: working together. It was the team's fifth Super Bowl victory since 1960. Trump's decision to include high-profile athletes is in line with the Obama administration, when figures such as New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and tennis champion and civil rights activist Billie Jean King served on the council.

Former MLB outfielder Johnny Damon - who was just ousted on Dancing With the Stars - bodybuilder and actor Lou Ferrigno and golfer Natalie Gulbis were also named to Trump's council.
