Boston 1B Hanley Ramirez leaves after being hit by pitch

Each player was fined an undisclosed amount, the Major League Baseball announced on Thursday.

Obviously, as a Yankees fan, I'm biased and personally don't think Austin was trying to hurt Brock Holt with his third inning slide, but I understand why the Red Sox were upset. That led to Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly drilling Austin in the seventh inning, which ended with a full-scale donnybrook.

Also fined were players on the disabled list who entered the field, including CC Sabathia of the Yankees, and Xander Bogaerts, Marco Hernandez and Dustin Pedroia of the Red Sox.

The next series between the two will be in New York May 8-10.

The Red Sox won for the 10th time in 11 games, including a 14-1 victory over the Yankees on Tuesday.

When the dust settled, Austin and Kelly were ejected from the game along with Yankees third-base coach Phil Nevin and Yankees relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle.

"I didn't know what to expect", Boone said of the retaliation. Austin then charged the mound, prompting both benches to empty.

"Two competitive teams going at it and stuff happens, " Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said of the scuffle. Kelly chose to take it upon himself to give it back to Austin for the earlier events and he threw a 98 miles per hour fastball straight at Austin.

Austin said after the game that he felt nothing was wrong with his slide.

Against the vaunted Yankees lineup, Porcello carried a no-hitter into the seventh - and through a 45 minute rain delay - before finally allowing a double to Aaron Judge.

"The only thing I would had done different than Joe Kelly tonight, is I would've hit Tyler Austin at his previous at bat".

Kelly later denied attempting to hit Austin, but was unrepentant after aiming several punches at the Yankees player.

With two series over the final couple weeks, including a three-game set to close out the season in Boston, the battle for the AL East will likely go down to the wire.

Kelly said his pitches got away on a cold night.

Starting pitcher David Price exited Wednesday's loss after struggling through the first, throwing just 16 strikes among his 35 pitches.

But on Thursday, MLB would make their ruling.

Porcello induced Didi Gregorius to fly to right and finished his outing by striking out Gary Sanchez and Aaron Hicks. He made three starts against the Red Sox in 2017 and compiled a 1-2 record against them with a 4.50 ERA and 17 strikeouts.

In seven career starts versus Boston, he's 1-5 with a 5.97 ERA - thanks in part to his performance Thursday, perhaps his worst start as a Yankee.
