Finally, Modi Breaks Silence on #Kathua & #Unnao

In the last few days, not only the opposition but also, common people have been criticizing PM Narendra Modi for his "loud" silence on reports of awful gang rape in Unnao and Kathua. What do YOU think about the growing violence against women and children? "2". Why are accused rapists and murderers protected by the state?

Union Minister Smriti Irani on Friday attacked Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his home constituency here in Uttar Pradesh.

A Congress leader familiar with the developments said Gandhi had conveyed his decision to general secretary Ashok Gehlot who in turn directed other office bearers to ensure maximum presence in the march from the party's headquarters at 24, Akbar Road to India Gate.

At the time when PM Modi was condemning the Kathua rape incident, two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers in the Jammu and Kashmir government submitted their resignations to the state party chief.

On January 17, the body of a minor girl was found in the forests near Rasana, Hiranagar.

Expressing anguish over the two incidents which have triggered widespread outrage, he also said such crimes challenge the very concept of social justice "and as a society and a country we all are ashamed of it".

The probe in the Kathua gangrape and murder case has disclosed that the deceased was kidnapped in a temple, drugged, and repeatedly gang-raped, even before her murder to scare the Muslim Bakerwal community to leave the village. He said Modi's slogan of "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" was a correct slogan. By 11 pm, the party office was teeming with people, as over 3,000 cadres from Delhi and nearby areas turned up. Eight people have been held by the cops, including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a head constable, who was charged with destroying evidence.

Both the Unnao and Kathua rape cases have a marked similarity in the sense that in both cases the assailants have been identified, yet justice is yet to be served.

In a tweet on Friday, Rahul said: "Thousands of men and women stood up to be counted in the battle for justice and to protest the rising acts of violence against girls and women", Rahul tweeted today.

Reports said that the bar members assembled at main Budgam Chowk and condemned the action of Kathua lawyers who prevented Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police from filing the charge sheet.
