Though he visited the office of Senior Superintendent of Police Lucknow late on Wednesday night he walked away half-an-hour later.

"I want justice for my husband and my family who are undergoing a lot of mental harassment", the MLA's wife said, adding no proof had been submitted about the alleged rape. He then told the media said that he was not on the run.

However, the officials said that Sengar can not be arrested unless the claims made against him are proven.

The girl was allegedly raped by the BJP MLA and his brother a year back.

On Sunday, the victim and her family members tried to commit suicide in front of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath 's residence in Lucknow, alleging that she was raped by Sengar and his fellow accomplices. He had been arrested on April 5 under the Arms Act. Significantly, a case had been registered against four persons a few days earlier on a complaint by the deceased's wife that he was beaten up. I am here, tell me what to do, ' a visibly unrepentant Sengar told reporters. "The respect that is being given to the accused is because he is an MLA... he is not a convict so far".

Sangeeta Singh Sengar placed the demand before Uttar Pradesh Director-General of Police O.P. Singh here.

Surendra Singh, however, continued to defend Sengar. "Her honour is also being torn to shreds", Ms. Sengar said. The matter has now gone to the CBI.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has not given any information officially, but based on the SIT report, it will take disciplinary action against Sengar.

Besides, the government has also chose to extend security to the family of the 17-year-old girl, they said.

Refusing allegations that police was trying to shield the MLA, the officials said it was because of this that the probe was being handed over to the CBI.

February 24, 2018: nearly nine months after the alleged rape case, the victim's mother moved the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Unnao, and sought registration of FIR under Section 156 (3) of CrPC.

Amid huge hue and cry, an FIR has been registered against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Senger in connection with the alleged rape of an Unnao girl, confirmed Police SO Rajesh, ANI reported.

The incident made headlines after the 18-year-old girl's self-immolation attempt and her father's death in judicial custody.
