A Pakistani singer killed for not standing up while singing

A local artist gunned down Tuesday night during a wedding ceremony was, in fact, shot for refusing to entertain the gunman's dance request, Geo News reported, citing reports that surfaced Wednesday evening.

Sindhu had reportedly released at least eight albums of Sindhi folk and Sufi music before her death, and was best known for her performances at family functions.

She stood up reluctantly to humour him.

The 24-year-old eventually stood up but was still shot by Tarique Ahmed Jatoi, who according to local media reports was drunk at the time.

In the video, she can be seen standing up to continue singing while attendees tossed money at her. At one point, three men approach the stage appearing to throw pieces of paper, most likely bank notes, at the singer, who then stands up without interrupting her song. The person was holding a pistol in his hands and asked the singer to dance to which she denied.

The slain singer's husband told the media that she was six months pregnant. She was soon taken to Chandka Medical College Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Local police chief Hazoor Baksh Junejo said Thursday the man suspected of killing local performer Samina Sindhu has been arrested. Samina's husband has demanded that the First Information Report should charge the accused of double murder because of the unborn child.
