Basebrawl as mass fight erupts in Rockies game against Padres

Perdomo and Padres catcher Luis Perdomo were also ejected. Immediately following the pitch, Arenado charged at Perdomo and a melee ensued shortly after between both teams.

The two team's beef started yesterday when Rockies reliever Scott Oberg accidentally hit Manuel Margot with a 95 miles per hour fastball to the ribs. Manny Margot got plunked by Scott Oberg in the ninth inning on Tuesday and was placed on the DL Wednesday, but that couldn't have been the sole reason, right? Before the game, Rockies manager Bud Black said Oberg had reached out to Margot to explain his side. San Diego then retaliated by hitting Trevor Story in the first inning Wednesday. The Padres return to Coors Field for another three games on Monday, April 23.

As expected, it would soon escalate.

A third-inning brawl resulted in the ejections of star third baseman Nolan Arenado, left fielder Gerardo Parra and starting pitcher German Marquez, but Colorado managed to squeeze out the victory to avoid a three-game sweep. Rockies starter German Marquez responded by hitting Hunter Renfroe in the second.

There were plenty of things to watch in the scrum, including Ellis being held by Colorado's Ian Desmond as he and Arenado continued to jaw at each other. Parra reportedly punched Ellis during the scuffle. All likely are looking at suspensions and/or fines, as well.

The pitch was in retaliation for a series of events that happened beginning Tuesday night.
