Roma spectacularly defeat Barcelona 3-0 to qualify for the semi finals

Roma staged one of the great Champions League comebacks to overturn a three-goal first-leg deficit and knock out Barcelona to reach the semi-finals on away goals.

Just as they were at the Camp Nou, Roma were aggressive from the off, and Dzeko gave the home side a deserved early lead, brilliantly bringing down De Rossi's clipped through ball and holding off Samuel Umtiti to score.

They did not. Instead, on 57 minutes, Gerard Pique panicked when bullied yet again by Dzeko, pulling him down to concede a needless penalty; Daniele De Rossi converted confidently. That was it. And then, I think it is just the defining moment for the players that they realise how good they are.

In the last five games, AS Roma has won two games, lost two games and drawn one game whereas Barcelona has won four games and drawn one game.

Turkey winger Cengiz Under, who scored six goals for Roma in February and March, remains questionable due to an injured thigh.

Entering the second leg with little hope and a mountain to climb, Roma started the clash with a bang as Edin Dzeko opened the floodgates for his side in the 6th minute of the match. Nainggolan was also influential, shooting twice and creating two chances for team-mates in the first 45 minutes.

The Italian capital came alive after a magical night at the Stadio Olimpico in which Roma - fourth in Serie A and fresh from being booed off in a 2-0 defeat against Fiorentina at the weekend - swept Lionel Messi and co aside in front of a crowd that roared itself hoarse.

"The genuine happiness and excitement of Roma fans going like "sometimes we have bad luck, but look at what we just did" - that was the whole best part about it".

This goal filled Roma's players with encouragement and they went close on the 23th minute.

Tore Andre Flo's 60th-minute goal was sending Chelsea through despite Rivaldo and Luis Figo scoring before the break, but Dani Garcia scored seven minutes from the end of regulation to force extra-time.

Veteran midfielder Danielle De Rossi stepped up to blast the ball in the top corner, beating Ter Stegen hands down.

Liverpool reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 10 years as Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino struck decisive blows to secure a 2-1 win over Manchester City that completed a 5-1 aggregate victory.

It set-up an exciting last quarter, with all to play for both sides, particularly Eusebio De Francesco's side who needed only one more goal to advance.
