Kimmel tones down feud with Hannity with apology

Hannity took exception. The two exchanged barbs through the week.

Fox News host Sean Hannity and comedian Jimmy Kimmel's row over his mockery of First Lady Melania Trump's accent ended with Kimmel calling for civility from both sides.

Kimmel said today the First Lady "certainly has enough to worry about without being used as a prop to increase TV ratings".

The above video of the incident, titled "Surprise Visitor at Donald & Melania Trump's Easter Egg Roll", has swelled to almost 250,000 views and has caused a bunch of backlash after Hannity claimed that he would leave Kimmel alone until he apologized to Melania. He also said what he thought as disrespectful to the first lady was cheating on her with a porn star after she has a baby.

Kimmel has been a target of conservatives, and been more open about politics, since discussing the health complications involving his son Billy a year ago. The late-night host was in hot water after his monologue that appeared to mock US President Donald Trump's wife reading a children's book to kids during the White House Easter Egg Hunt. Then he turned to his heavily accented, Mexican-American sidekick and said, "Guillermo, you know what this means?" Stop projecting. How you treat the First Lady helping kids is disgusting. "This was clearly a shot at her accent", the petition read. Hannity pointed out that English is Melania's fifth language. "How many do you speak?"

Hannity's initial attack on Kimmel, calling him an "ass clown", was enthusiastically countered by Kimmel, who said Hannity was the "whole ass circus". Many users called the comment homophobic.

Hannity says he'll address Kimmel's statement on his Monday show. "Why don't you rant a little about that, Sean Hannity?".

Kimmel offered a mea culpa in his tweet on Sunday.

He tweeted he had just received an alert about the Kimmel apology while at "a tournament with my daughter".

"I am hopeful that Sean Hannity will learn from this too and continue his newly-found advocacy for women, immigrants and First Ladies and that he will triumph in his heroic battle against sexual harassment and perversion", Kimmel concluded.

In response to Kimmel's note, Hannity said he'll "have a full and comprehensive response tomorrow" on his Fox News program.
