BJP names 72 candidates for polls, fields Yeddyurappa from Shikaripura

The BJP's Karnataka unit chief BS Yeddyurappa on Monday said the second list of party candidates for the 12 May Assembly election in the state was likely to be announced on 11 April.

The list, finalised by the BJP top braass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party President Amit Sha, was announced by the Central Election Committee. Party leader JP Nadda released the list on Sunday night.

The Congress meanwhile has said that it will announce its candidates for all 224 seats in one phase on April 15.

Yeddyurappa is the chief ministerial candidate for the BJP as the party is targeting to win 150 out of the total 224 assembly seats in the Karnataka elections. Malikayya Guttedar will contest from Afzhalpur and Mallikarjuna Khuba from Basavakalyana.

Sundara Devinagara was welcomed to the BJP at a function in the morning by U Rajesh Naik, who will be contesting from Bantwal constituency against state Forests Minister B Ramanath Rai.

He was accompanied by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, who is also in charge of party affairs in Karnataka, state Congress president G Parameshwara and Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Gowda.

Karnataka will go to polls on May 12 to elect its representatives for the 225-member assembly.

The opposing BJP is leaving no-stone-unturned in order to take away the throne from Congress and return back to power in Karnataka after a gap of five years. Yeddyurappa will be contesting from Shikaripura seat.
