IPL 2018, KKR vs RCB: Hits and Misses

McCullum too looked good for his 27-ball 43 at the start.

After restricting RCB to 176, KKR opener Narine struck four boundaries and five sixes to leave the RCB attack in tatters. In all, RCB extracted 52 off the Powerplay for the loss of Quinton de Kock, and McCullum looked for the boundary at every opportunity before his dismissal for 43 in the ninth over. Off the next ball, he cleaned up the RCB skipper Kohli with a yorker. In Narine's boom-or-bust batting style, the biggest threat for the left-hander has been extra yard of pace.

Chasing an nearly par score on a juicy wicket of Eden Gardens, KKR went bonkers right at the beginning with Sunil Narine (50, SR: 263.15) getting stuck into the RCB bowlers. Along with them, both teams will heavily rely on their other spinners as well with Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine for Kolkata and Washington Sundar and Pawan Negi for Bangalore.

Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana. In the 64-run stand between the two, de Villiers (44, SR: 191.30) was clearly the aggressor as he toyed with the KKR bowling for the limited time that he was at the crease. The toss has taken place and KKR has won it. But the latter, however, erred in line and was taken apart by Rana.

There has been a visible change of philosophy in the KKR ranks after a peculiar strategy which they adopted in the auction. Sundar kept pitching the ball up, and Narine kept clattering it down the ground. The best aspect of his knock was that none of the big strokes were ugly slogs - he just swung through the line and hit a majority of his runs in the "V", making life hard for the bowlers. With the asking rate slashed, Karthik and Rana dealt smartly with the spin duo, collecting 33 off the 22 balls they faced against them. AB De Villiers put the bowlers to the sword as the 100 came up in the 12th over. Attempting a reverse sweep in a delivery of Piyush Chawla, de Cock fell into the hands of Vinay Kumar, who was placed at short third man.

Lynn may also be skinny at [3.3] but he's the key wicket and could deliver the profit whether he ruins the match tip or not.

Rinku Singh is my uncapped pick.

Where do they go from here? . In what is a double-header weekend for cricket fans, the action begins at Kolkata from 7.30 pm after we get over with the afternoon fixture between the Kings XI Punjab and the Delhi Daredevils at the PCA stadium in Mohali.

In their first game of the new IPL season, RCB suffered a four-wicket defeat to KKR after failing to defend 176-6.
