Mercedes-AMG Hands CLS The Ultimate Sports Makeover!

Mercedes-AMG's new 2019 C43 will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. As it is, in 2018 that's only sufficient to be competitive in the burgeoning group of sub-flagship sports saloons, of which the new Mercedes-AMG C43 aims to be the best.

The auto has AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive support with new, aerodynamically-optimized AMG light-alloy designs.

The 2018 Mercedes C-Class facelift was revealed last month, and now it's the turn of the "lesser" AMG C-Class - the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC - to get its 2018 titivates.

The 3-liter bi-turbo V6 now makes 23 hp (17 kW) more than the pre-facelift version, reaching 390 hp (287 kW). New features for this latest C43 include an AMG grille, a "powerfully sculpted" front apron and a "significantly more expressive" rear diffuser.

Channeled to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission and AMG-tuned 4Matic+ all-wheel drive, that's said to be enough to send either version to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in just 3.1 seconds before topping out at an electrically limited 186 mph (300 km/h).

Fuel use on the new European cycle (NEDC) sees the sedan claim a maximum usage of 9.3L/100km and the wagon a maximum of 9.6L/100km - both of which are higher than Aussie models are claimed to use in their current guise: 8.2L/100km for the sedan and 8.3L/100km for the wagon. For the driver, there's a brand-new multifunction steering wheel with touch control buttons for the gauge cluster and infotainment system.

The new AMG model carries on legacy of speed and grace.

With five Dynamic Select drive modes, the driver can adjust the car's behavior and performance between "Comfort", "Sport", "Supersport", "Individual" and "Slippery" modes. Optional AMG Performance seats with added bolstering, integrated head restraints, and three levels of ventilation when spec'd with leather trim. Their specifically designed outer aero rings and spoke geometry which has been optimized in the wind tunnel help to improve air flow around the wheels and thus increase aerodynamic efficiency.
