Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicle priced at Tesla-rivaling $70495

The I-Pace is rated at a 240-mile range when fully charged, Jaguar says. The vehicle has a 90-kilowatt battery that powers the engine for up to 240 miles (only slightly less than the 295-mile range of the Tesla Model X.) The I-PACE will be shown at the New York International Auto Show later this month and will be available in the USA during the second half of this year. Compare this to the Tesla electric SUV, the Model X, which starts around $82,000. As an electric crossover, it was only natural to compare the I-Pace to the Tesla Model X, but without USA pricing, it was hard to tell how accurate the comparisons were. However, the Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla Model X aren't exactly equal competitors.

As for acceleration, the Jaguar outruns the Tesla model, as well. The 2019 I-Pace is priced at $70,495 with the destination fees, before you apply any federal or state tax incentives. The Tesla equivalent used to take 6 seconds and was upgraded to 4.9 seconds, but reaches a top speed of 130 miles per hour, while the I-PACE only makes it to 124. Tesla also has a growing network of fast-chargers called Superchargers that are located on US highways in an effort to promote long-distance travel.

Introduce a new electric vehicle and it's nearly impossible to avoid comparisons with Tesla.

It all depends on how you define an SUV and whether or not you accept the comparison of the I-Pace to the Model X, or prefer to match the I-Pace to the Model 3. Yes, they're both electric crossovers, but the I-Pace is smaller, only offering seating for five.

The Model X will finally have some company in the lonely segment when the I-Pace arrives in the second half of 2018.
