Donald Trump's Oscars Tweet Rattles Jimmy Kimmel

Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel mocked President Trump during Sunday's show, but the president had the last laugh. According to data released by Nielsen, a record low 26.5 million people watched its telecast, a almost 20 percent drop from past year, reported.

The Oscars ceremony saw host Jimmy Kimmel cracking a joke about Trump as he addressed "Get Out" director Jordan Peele.

Trump took a victory lap over the low-rated Oscars on Twitter, blaming its decline on there not being "Stars anymore - except your President (just kidding, of course)!".

He also hit back at Donald Trump Jr., who tweeted that he wasn't watching the Oscars.

A fan wrote, "President Trump is an expert on low ratings".

"Now Trump loves saying the ratings are down, to insinuate it's a show of some kind of support for him", Kimmel said. The news that Sunday's Oscars had seen historic viewership lows prompted a response from the president early in the day: "Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY".

As of Wednesday morning, Trump's tweet had racked up 184,000 of the little hearts, while Kimmel's tally was at 558,000.

On his show Tuesday night, Kimmel said every big televised event had dipped in ratings since Netflix emerged.
