Netflix Releases 'Black Mirror' Teaser Announcing Season 5 Renewal

Black Mirror is officially coming back for season 5.

While many of us were sleeping, Black Mirror made a decision to drop some big news on Twitter.

You may note some familiarity with previous episodes in a new teaser released by Netflix.

Well, we'll believe that when we see it.

Black Mirror is an anthology series that explores the possibilities and consequences of technology, both in positive and negative ways.

Although they have yet to reveal a launch date for Black Mirror 5, the hype is already building. If ever, season five will have the most episodes. But that seems to be par for the course with the series, which isn't always great but occasionally offers up truly fantastic episodes like "San Junipero". The quality has peaked and bottomed within the longer seasons ("Hang the DJ" - good; "Metalhead" - less good!), but the streaming service trusts Brooker to come up with new ways to show us why our toaster will murder us.

Regardless, we can probably expect Brooker to break new ground with the series, which has expanded in scope in recent years. The list includes Game of Thrones season 8 and True Detective season 3, as well as Stranger Things season 3, which, until now, is unconfirmed and is just heavily reported.

The official Black Mirror twitter account confirmed the season 5 renewal on Monday morning. The show, created by Charlie Booker, gathered critical acclaim and a growing cult-status after its first two seasons' successful run at Channel 4. However, fans should take these with a grain of salt, as details are yet to trickle down in the following weeks or months.
