Margot Robbie To Wear Chanel At The 90th Academy Awards

Margot Robbie put in the performance of her life as Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding in the critically acclaimed I, Tonya.

"I can't believe I'm wearing a haute couture dress made for me by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel", she told reporters on the red carpet.

Sunday night's Academy Awards saw Margot stun on the red carpet in a custom white Chanel gown that featured a fitted corset and beaded straps across the bust and shoulders.

Lucklily, a member of her entourage was able to acquire a sewing kit and Robbie ended up fixing the strap herself.

According to InStyle, the dress took over 600 hours to make. Before the actress walked the red carpet, Kate Young sprayed "Still Standing" on her feet.

Margot played soap babe Donna Freedman in the Australian soap, starting in 2008 before departing for Hollywood in 2011.

"At a certain point I had given up thinking this would ever happen to me", the star - who had never been nominated for an Oscar until this year - said.

Fellow nominee Sally Hawkins was also spotted backstage and bumped into Robbie while suffering her own fashion crisis. Even though it's fancy, it's comfortable and easy. "I wanted her to look real and elegant".

"I genuinely thought we were these people and we were off the set, running down the street screaming at each other and the cameras are running after us", she told Grazia.

As the night unfolded, Cameron and his friend popped some champagne following I, Tonya's star Allison Janney's Best Supporting Actress win, saying "Margot, I love you, but I need to start drinking now", noting that "tensions are high". The stunning dress was accessorised with Chanel Fine Jewellery but Kate admitted the pieces Margot wore were not what she'd originally planned.
