Geneva Motor Show: BMW reveals M8 Grand Coupe Concept

The BMW 8 Series is returning soon. It's likely to be a costlier proposition than the two-door 8 Series though.

BMW's getting ahead of itself with its unusual 8 Series and M8 launch strategy, and before it's even released a picture or mechanical titbit of the forthcoming flagship coupe in road trim, it's already announcing new derivatives. At the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, BMW revealed the new Concept M8 Gran Coupe, the latest in a line of BMW 8 Series teasers.

We all know the BMW 8-Series is real and on its way, but we have yet to see a production version without camouflage.

Just like how the all-new CLS and A-Class helped Mercedes introduce a new design language to the range, so will the 8-Series help BMW to the same.

The new BMW's cabin is set well back within the wheelbase and receives a heavily rounded roofline and fixed B-pillar as part of a shallow 6-window glasshouse that tapers toward the rear.

At the rear, the Concept M8 Gran Coupe has a flowing C-pillar, heavily sloping rear screen and high-set boot deck that will feature on the production version of the 8 Series Gran Coupe. The model will also go up against the Porsche Panamera. Domagoj Dukec, Head of Design BMW M and BMW I was quoted as saying: "The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is supposed to stir up, it should polarize - it should move emotionally".

-Show premiere in Europe for the new BMW X2: Compact Sports Activity Coupe with standalone design combining sporting elegance with the rugged character familiar from BMW X models; efficient engines combine with six-speed manual gearbox, seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission or eight-speed Steptronic transmission; sporty suspension set-up; latest BMW ConnectedDrive Services, wide range of driver assistance systems and BMW Head-Up Display with projection onto the windscreen available as options. With the vehicle we want to reach people who are looking for something special and want to stand out from the crowd.
