Shots reportedly fired at Central Michigan University

More than 100 police officers spent the afternoon and evening searching the Mount Pleasant area for James Eric Davis, who authorities described as armed and unsafe, after he allegedly shot his mother and father, an IL police officer.

Davis is wanted for fatally shooting his father James Eric Davis Sr., 48, and mother Diva, 47 earlier Friday. They urged the community to call 911 if they see him or see anything suspicious.

Officers from a number of police departments are still hard at work while the college was on the eve of spring break starting and tragedy for an IL family.

Central Michigan is in Mt.

James Eric Davis, listed as a sophomore in CMU's student directory.

State police are sending a tactical team and helicopter to assist in the search.

"The priority right now is the safety of those still on campus and I thank all first responders involved for their swift action", Michigan Governor Rick Snyder said on Twitter.

The shooting occurred on the last day of classes before a weeklong break.

"He's 19 years old, 5'10", 135 lbs. Around 10:15 a.m., MSP confirmed the two deaths. The game will tip off at 11 a.m., at Riepma Arena on the campus of Northwood University.

The search was focused on Mount Pleasant neighborhoods near campus.

Authorities haven't yet said if Davis is a student, nor have they described the situation that led up to the shooting.

Several local law enforcement agencies had been searching throughout the day for Davis Jr. Klaus says surveillance footage shows the young man fled on foot. He should not be approached and should be considered armed and unsafe. His photo was released to the public. "If you see this individual, we want you to contact 911 immediately..."

Police took him to a hospital the night before for what was believed to be a "drug-related type of incident - an overdose or a bad reaction to drugs", campus police spokesman Larry Klaus told a news conference.

Michigan State Police Crime Lab is processing the scene and police have to notify next of kin before identities of the victims can be released. In another tweet, the CMU Student Government Association advised the students to stay inside locked doors and warned them to not "walk around the campus".

The lockdown included schools and many local businesses.

"He should be considered armed and risky", Klaus said of Davis. Students are being told to take shelter.

"People on the third floor heard the shots go off", said Katie Suhy, CMU student.

That is the thought being echoed as there has been another college shooting in the US.

All schools in Mount Pleasant and all city buildings are on lockdown. Visitors also weren't being allowed to enter.

The university, which has about 20,000 students, is in Mount Pleasant, about two hours northwest of Detroit. The deceased are not students and police believe the situation started from a domestic situation.
