The first confirmed new character has been labeled as an "alternative girl" and will be played by Maya Thurman-Hawke. Ferguson, who guest starred in four episodes of Season 2 as Lucas' syrup-loving precocious sister Erica Sinclair, has been officially named a recurring for Season 3.

Let the speculation begin-fans are one step closer to the next season of Stranger Things, as Netflix just announced some exciting casting news.

Maya is not new to acting, as she now stars in a BBC adaption of "Little Women" as Jo March.

Stranger Things 3 has no set release date.

Speaking of his daughter, Ethan said Maya has always been an artist and loves writing poems and singing, but only discovered acting when in her junior year of high school.

"It's one of the most awesome moments of my life watching her in Little Women", Hawke gushed.

In Season 3, Lucas' strong-willed little sister returns, only this time with an army of friends. The streaming service went on to share that her character will be joined by some new friends, but no further information on their roles was revealed.

From her updated character description, expect the 11-year-old actress - who has also appeared on FX's Atlanta - to have an expanded role and bring along some new friends on a "wild mission to save Hawkins from a risky and unexpected new threat". She was with comedy show Atlanta and was seen in Mercy Street and Daytime Divas.

Stranger Things is a horror-thriller, with elements of science fiction, created and directed by the Duffer brothers.
