Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United starlet Scott McTominay

Much of the talk has been whether the academy product plays for Scotland or England's senior side and it's a testament to his form that both national teams are fighting for him.

And McLeish plans to confirm McTominay's decision by phone tomorrow before naming him in his squad on Thursday morning for the forthcoming friendlies with Costa Rica and Hungary.

The 21-year-old has made six appearances in the Premier League for the Red Devils so far this season and has been showing maturity beyond his years with his assured displays.

Scott McTominay has chose to play worldwide football for Scotland instead of England, according various reports.

Mourinho himself has also reflected those feelings, stating he knows nothing of his player's decision and passing on words of advice. "Scott McTominay announces retirement from worldwide tournament football", said one tweet.

"The majority of my family is Scottish", he said. I've been to a few training camps with Scotland. In the past, the young midfielder has been quoted as saying that he's "probably more Scottish than I am English", despite being born in England.

"I'm sure he would have met with Alex and straight away got to see what kind of guy he is".

United boss Jose Mourinho had encouraged McTominay to follow his heart.

The United manager added: "The kid is very "feet on the ground", he's very calm, so I think he passed some important tests not by the football point of view but the mental point of view - maturity, calm play against champions, play knockout in the Champions League, two tests by the mental approach".
