JR Smith Suspended 1 Game by Cavaliers for Detrimental Conduct

The Cavaliers' decision to suspend J.R. Smith for one game stems from an incident between Smith and assistant coach Damon Jones in which Smith threw a bowl of soup at Jones, ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Dave McMenamin report. He will be back at shooting guard when the Cavs take on the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.

The Cavs announced veteran guard Smith's one-game ban two hours before Thursday's National Basketball Association clash for conduct detrimental to the team.

"Something happened after shootaround, so, that's all the details I'm going to give to you", Lue said.

The 32-year-old Smith, who served his suspension while the Cavs were beaten by the Sixers, had a history of fines and other issues before arriving in Cleveland by a trade in 2014. Smith often times takes more hard shots than need be, and without a player of LeBron's caliber on the second unit, he might be able to fit in perfectly.

In 56 games, Smith is averaging 8.3 points and shooting 39 percent.

"He was great this morning", said Lue, who will start Rodney Hood in Smith's place.

Jones previously played for the Cavs and is in his second season as an assistant on coach Lue's staff. Jones played in the National Basketball Association for 11 seasons for 10 teams.
