Instant Pot Recalls 104000 Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicookers

The Double Insight company has received 107 reports of overheating related to the Gem 65 8-in-1 model, which resulted in five instances of property damage, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. No injuries were reported.

When the hit NBC series "This is Us" finally revealed that the show's beloved patriarch Jack's death was due to a faulty slow cooker, the internet expressed their grief by threatening to chuck their own slow cookers in solidarity - and perhaps to avoid a similar fate.

Manufacturing Defect Creates Fire Hazard Instant Pot has also provided an explanation for the observed product failures: "The overheating is the result of a tooling misalignment during the manufacturing process, which created a gap between the bottom of the inner pot and top surface of the heating plate in the product".

The overheating causes melting on the bottom of the product, which can cause a fire.

If you're not located near a Walmart you can call the company at 1-888-891-1473 from 8:30 a.m.to 10:00 p.m. or go online to www.gemmulticooker.com for information.

Or, contact Double Insight to request a return shipping label and instructions for sending in the Instant Pot's power cord and rating label.

These models were exclusively sold at Walmart and on Walmart.com from August 2017 through January of this year.

The company warned consumers about the problem last week, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an official recall Thursday.
