Jared Kushner's security clearance downgraded

Kushner's downgrade, and those of dozens of others staffers, are a part of an attempt to tighten access to sensitive information after it was revealed that former White House staff secretary Rob Porter held top interim clearance even though the Federal Bureau of Investigation had knowledge of domestic abuse accusations against him.

The job never materialized, but in November, Apollo lent $184 million (U.S.) to Kushner's family real estate firm, Kushner Cos. "But - oh wait - there's more, because an even larger loan came from Citigroup".

In both cases, there was no direct proof of a quid-pro-quo relationship between Kushner and the two executives approving his loans, The Times noted.

"This is hundreds of millions of dollars being shoved at him and his personal business interests while taking meetings with executives from those lenders in the white house, in his capacity as a White House official", Maddow said.

In a statement, Signature Bank spokeswoman Susan Lewis confirmed that the Kushner family and Kushner Cos. has been a customer with the bank since 2010.

The host then introduced Jesse Drucker, one of The New York Times reporters who broke the story.

An Apollo spokesperson, Charles V. Zehren, said Harris was not involved in the decision to loan money to Kushner Cos. $325 million last spring after CEO Michael Corbat met with Kushner in the White House, reportedly to discuss financial and trade policy.

Even by the standards of Apollo, one of the world's largest private equity firms, the previously unreported transaction with the Kushners was a big deal: It was triple the size of the average property loan made by Apollo's real estate lending arm, securities filings show.

Special counsel Robert Mueller 's team, who is looking into Russian meddling in the 2016 US election, have asked questions about Kushner's interactions with potential foreign investors, the Times said. Among other things, the two men discussed a possible White House job for Harris.

Perhaps if Kushner weren't so politically motivated himself, he wouldn't have to worry about having his potential conflicts of interest scrutinized.

Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump, was repeatedly forced to amend his security application forms over the past year due to his global dealings.

It was recently revealed that dozens of White House aides were still operating with direct access to some of the country's most sensitive material despite not having obtained final permanent clearance.

His status had given him access to classified information, including the president's daily briefing and intelligence summary. "This is not the first concerning report we've had - just in the last few days - about the presidential son-in-law and senior adviser potentially mixing his government responsibilities and private business needs in potentially dubious ways".

The New York State Department of Financial Services asked several banks for information about their relationships with Jared Kushner and his finances, people familiar with the information requests said.

It also stated that information regarding the family members was also requested.
