Is Apple working on a new line of high-quality headphones?

When Apple introduced AirPods past year, it became a butt of jokes.

Apple, keeping its tradition of pioneering hardware it produces, had used W1 chip for AirPods. This product is expected to be an upgarde over Apple's wireless AirPods, an analyst said.

In a weekend note to investors, KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Cupertino plans on introducing at least one new pair of Apple-branded over-the-ear headphones before the end of the year. It's worth noting that the company already owns headphone company Beats, which it bought for $3 billion in 2014. The goal, Kuo suggests, would be to offer a heaping dose of portability and performance-headphones that would offer a much more impressive sound than a pair of AirPods, but still be just as convenient for everyday, cord-free use. Now, a new report talks about Apple working on its own high-quality over-the-ear headphones. The new headphones will be priced higher than AirPods and should help boost the business momentum of Primax as the assembly provider.

Word is that current Apple supplier SZS, a metal injection molding company, will be part of the project.

However, the expected design language of the device is not yet known. These earbuds brought along a number of useful features like pausing music when one earbud is out, contacting Siri with a double-tap, and obviously more freedom since they're completely wireless. Before that, or even on the same timescale, we're likely to see Apple's second-generation AirPods.

Another feature that would reportedly make its way into the next-gen AirPods would be a hands-free connection to Siri.

The news comes in the wake of rumours that Apple is planning to regularly refresh its AirPods, the same way it does iPhones. Also, its ease of use and relatively affordable pricing is a major reason for its success.
