BB&T ATM & phone service back in business after outage

An equipment malfunction in one of its data centers is the reason for an outage that caused customers not to have access to their bank accounts, a BB&T spokesperson said. Customers will still be able to use BB&T debit, credit and prepaid cards, the bank said.

This includes online banking, our mobile banking app, and our automated Phone24 service. No word on how long it would take to fix the issue and restore service. Davis said customers should be aware that some information they will see about their accounts hasn't yet been fully updated, but will be available and updated later Friday. "We are deeply sorry this has happened and we're committed to making this right for our clients".

The bank said it would reimburse customers for any fees they are assessed related to the outage, as well as waive its fees. "You claim to "hear" our frustrations yet you don't address that which we are frustrated about". The bank said balances and transactions will become current later in the day.

An outage map showed the biggest impact targeted much of central North Carolina, Atlanta, the Washington area and Philadelphia. We thank our clients for their patience and we will continue to provide updates here and on BB&T's Facebook and Twitter pages.

By 3:30 p.m. Friday, it posted a notice that branches would stay open extra on Friday and branches that are normally open Saturdays would have two additional business hours. We're also here to assist with any other challenges.
