Slovakia goalie Jan Laco pushed the shot away, but the puck got pushed back up to Donato in the lower left circle for the shot and score.

Donato, a Harvard junior, scored bookend goals in the game and Troy Terry, a University of Denver junior, added three assists as Team USA defeated Slovakia 5-1 to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament, where the US men will play Czech Republic Wednesday. Defenseman James Wisniewski scored next on a power play assisted by forward Troy Terry, who had a total of three assists in the second period.

The five-goal haul meant the US scored more against Slovakia than it had in three group stage games combined, while at the other end Ryan Zapolski stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced.

The game was scoreless until Ryan Donato and James Wisniewski scored 44 seconds apart in the first 2 ½ minutes of the second period. Troy Terry had three assists.

Garret Roe buried a feed from Broc Little at 9:52 of the final period to cement the victory for the U.S. The play started when Bobby Sanguinetti intercepted a pass in the defensive zone to start the offensive rush.

Donato then opened up the scoring at 21:36 of the first period, getting assists from Matt Gilroy and Terry to give the US a 1-0 lead. Terry had his third assist of the game on Arcobello's goal, with Jonathon Blum also assisting.

The Americans, who haven't taken Olympic gold since 1980, booked a last-eight matchup on Wednesday against the undefeated Czech Republic, who seek their first gold in 20 years. The Czech Republic topped Group A with a 2-0-1 record, beating South Korea and Switzerland in regulation and Canada in overtime.

The United States defeated their rivals from Slovakia for the second time, ending their performance at the Olympics.
