Nintendo will convert Gold Points into Switch game discounts

You can also still redeem your points for existing Wii U and Nintendo 3DS rewards. I have a gazillion of those from playing Nintendo mobile games, but nothing to buy with them.

If you've been buying digital games on your 3DS, Wii U, or Switch since My Nintendo's rewards program went live, chances are you have some gold points saved up if you haven't been trading them in for discounts.

Starting in "early March", you'll be able to redeem My Nintendo Gold Points for Switch games and downloadable content, Nintendo announced today. Purchasing digital titles or redeeming download codes will reimburse 5% in gold points while registering a game in physical format will only give 1% of the purchase. Besides purchasing games, you can earn My Nintendo points by using Nintendo apps like Super Mario Run or Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on your smartphone and signing into Nintendo services like the eShop.

Stay tuned for more details! The established real-world value of one coin is, apparently, one cent. Those points are equivalent to $2.50; should you cash in on them, you'd get a cool $2.50 off your next eShop purchase. Gold Points will be good for a year once they have been earned.

Once earned, Gold Points remain valid until the last day of the month in the following calendar year. To earn Gold Points from physical Switch games, make sure that the game card is inserted in the system, scroll to the game's icon on the home menu and press the + button, scroll down to the "My Nintendo Rewards Program" option and select earn points from there.
