The police were searching for the child and had alerted their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh.

The boy was abducted from his school bus on January 25, despite the heightened security arrangements and police deployment in place for the Republic Day, the ASEAN Summit, and the Padmaavat protests. "The kid is in state of shock", he said.

The boy, a five-year-old, was abducted from his school bus in Delhi on January 25 and the incident remained in the headlines over the last week. During the rescue operation, one of the kidnappers was arrested other was shot dead while the third kidnapper was left severely injured during the exchange of gunfire. "I also want to thank the media who did not extensively cover the kidnapping that helped in safe rescue of the child", he said. But, instead of giving in to their demand, the parents lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police.

In the ensuing encounter, one of the kidnappers, identified as Ravi (24) was killed, while two of his accomplices Pankaj (21) and Nitin (28) sustained bullet injuries.

While the kidnappers fired five rounds, the Crime Branch team, led by DCP Dr Ram Gopal Naik, retaliated by firing three times.

The kidnappers had rented the flat and found a haven in the city before the Delhi Police cracked the case around 1am on Tuesday morning. But there were no casualties on our side due to bullet-proof jackets.

However, it's yet to be ascertained as to why was the child targetted by the kidnappers.

All the accused belonged to the Gokulpuri area and got to know about the recent financial dealing of Rs 57 lakh made by the boy's father, following which they had hatched conspiracy to kidnap the child.

They used to make videos of the child and would share it over whatsapp with the parents. But the child was not harmed, and has been returned to his family, an officer confirmed. We had been doing the groundwork for the past many days and got leads from the person.
