"As a former police officer, I stand here this morning with a heavy heart", said Rep. Shane Sandridge, R-Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Springs Police Department and El Paso County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Murray Boulevard and Galley Road in Colorado Springs around 4 p.m. investing a motor vehicle theft.

Authorities said Flick and other officers were investigating a stolen vehicle in Colorado Springs when they approached a suspect, struggled with him and gunfire began.

Both the Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be responding to "emergent and in progress" calls. Elder said that Monday was the 11th anniversary of Flick's hiring at the sheriff's department.

Jake Abendshan was treated and released Monday night after a shooting in Colorado Springs that killed 34-year-old Deputy Micah Flick. Officials say he is survived by his wife and 7-year-old twins. All were hospitalized, but the extent of their injuries wasn't immediately released. Police say all suspects have been accounted for.

Multiple sources are saying that a El Paso County Deputy has died.

"This is indeed a hard day for our agencies", Carey said.

Flags were lowered on state buildings at the order of Gov. John Hickenlooper, who said that the deadly violence against officers is having a "grave impact" on Colorado.

"She was moved so much by the level of service that deputy Gumm provided to her son that she took the time to reach out and make sure that we knew", Sheriff Michael McIntosh said. It's a blow to the law enforcement community in the state and nationwide.

Sen. Cory Gardner, a Republican representing Colorado, issued this statement: Over the course of the past 36 days in Colorado, ten law enforcement officers have been shot and three have been tragically killed including one yesterday.
