Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India's growth story will get speed only when there is all round development of Northeast and its people.

He further stated that in the last three years, the government has spent more than INR 5,000 crore on development of railways in the northeast.

In order to follow up with the promised investment, an agency named "Invest Assam" will be formed which will be led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and their major responsibility will be to realize the investments within a limited time frame. Bhutanese PM Tshering Tobgay, several Union ministers, chief ministers of neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, ambassadors and high commissioners of 16 countries, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekharan attended the meet.

Oil India will be investing INR 10,000 crore, Indo-UK Institute of Health will be investing INR 2,700 crore, Century Ply has shared plans of investing 2,100 crore, Spicejet outlined plans of INR 1,250 crore worth of investment for Assam through sea planes boosting the tourism sector besides connecting Lakhimpur and Jorhat under the Udaan Scheme.

Parallel thematic sessions were organized in five separate halls where discussions were held on the various sectors like Agriculture & Food processing, Plastic and Petrochemicals, Innovation and Start-up, Power and Country Sessions for Czech Republic and Japan respectively.

"The North East and particularly Assam has the locational advantage as the centre for the regional cooperation framework for India with the ASEAN and BBN countries", Yokoyamana said.

"Assam has a unique advantage of being at a strategic geographic location with a strong connectivity network, making it an ideal destination for doing business with the ASEAN countries", Mr Tiwari said. Host minister for industry and commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary said, "Investments are key to the economic growth of the state".

Delving on growth potential of the eight states of the region, Mr Modi said, ' Polices are now being designed according to the needs of North East. People and will have a long term positive impact on the region in near future.

The Summit reiterates the demographical superiority of Assam as India's Expressway to ASEAN.

He said that the Centre along easily of Doing Business is also working for Ease of Living for transformation of the lives of the people of the country.

The two-day first edition of the Assam Global Investors' Summit aims at highlighting Assam's core competencies in different sectors along with the policy initiatives taken by the state government.
