The New BMW 8 Series Is Getting Seriously Close To Production Ready

"The test drives under the most severe conditions show that we are right on target with our concept for the new BMW 8 Series Coupe".

While the 8-Series may be a large, luxurious coupe, lightweight construction and track-honed suspension should ensure nearly sports car-like dynamics.

Development and Research board member overseeing the 8 Series testing Klaus Fröhlich says the testing the 8 Series has undergone is meant to ensure it will be able to handle the worst of the worst.

The BMW 8 Series Coupe is expected to make its official debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, although the German automaker has yet to confirm.

The upcoming coupe was previewed by the 8 Series Concept, which was unveiled at the 2017 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este last May. Up front we can see an aggressive fascia beneath the headlights and trademark kidney grille. That'd give the 8 Series one heck of a USP...

"Likewise, the vehicle is also able to meet the highest demands in terms of supremacy and comfort".

So far, there have been no concrete details of what will be powering the new 8 Series, but the likely candidate is a twin-turbo V-8, possibly even the 600 horsepower 4.4-litre unit being used for the new M5. It has also confirmed that a high-performance M8 is being developed alongside the standard 8 Series range, full details of which have yet to be announced. More specifically, BMW says the prototypes give a strong indication of the sports vehicle proportions.

Frank van Meel, BMW M Division's boss, said: "The future BMW M8 will build on the genes of the 8 Series and augment its DNA with added track ability and generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility".
