Mascherano to join Hebei China Fortune

Argentine defender of Barcelona Javier Mascherano will continue his career in the Chinese club Hebei China, Barcelona website reported.

For example, it was at that centre back that he played in, and won, the famous Wembley final of the Champions League.

The 33-year-old, whose new side are managed by ex-Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, will link up with fellow countryman Ezequiel Lavezzi in the Far East.

Chinese media however put the transfer fee at 5.5 million euros, saying that is just under the threshold that would trigger a 100 percent tax under rules imposed by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) on incoming foreign transfers last May.

A move to China had been an open secret for some time, though, and the transfer will now be officially completed later this week on 26th January.

Mascherano has been at Barcelona for seven and a half seasons and has made more than 300 appearances.

"The moment had arrived", he said.

Telling Valverde your decision to leave: "I've always got on well with Ernesto". Time has been the biggest indicator that I was losing my importance in the team. "My age was an indicator that I was falling down the pecking order and that it was becoming harder for me and so I decided that before things came to a head, and out of respect for the club, I would look for a solution which would help me to bring this experience full circle".

"Sometimes you have to accept the reality". It's normal, natural. I needed to make this change. The Argentina striker has been linked with a return to Serie A side Napoli in the next transfer window as he looks to win back his place in Argentina's squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Barcelona, however, have not mentioned a specific destination club for the player.

"I feel very privileged". I never imagined I would stay here for so long and be part of the club's history.

The surcharge was a way of reining in Chinese clubs who in recent transfer windows shelled out huge amounts on worldwide stars, prime among them Tevez, who moved back to Boca Juniors earlier this month after a miserable year at Shanghai Shenhua. "It has been a dream".

President Josep Maria Bartomeu and the first-team squad will all be in attendance.

In case you didn't know.

. This is your club, Javier. "You must return. We're waiting for you as a coach".
