'Field of Dreams' Park Vandalized by Vehicle; Damage Estimated to Be $15K

Dyersville, Iowa's iconic ballpark-in-the-corn that played host to 1989's Field of Dreams has been scarred by the work of vandals. All told, the damages could cost thousands of dollars to fix.

Denise Stillman, who owns the site, told the Telegraph Herald that the damage was found on Tuesday morning.

Al Steffen, who is field manager for the site, told the Dubuque Telegraph Herald that the damage was substantial. "Whoever did it was really able to dig in". A GoFundMe page has been set up so fans can help.

The majority of the damage occurred in center field and left field, he said.

Damage was also done to the sprinkler system, according to KWWL.

Tire track damage can be seen on the "Field of Dreams" movie site in Dyersville, Iowa.

The damage was especially severe because the ground was soft following warm weather and rain.

"I've always loved it and I will continue to until the last", said Steffen.

The drop in temperature froze the deep ruts in place and made it hard to assess the damage beyond aesthetics of the field.

The Stillmans will not be able to make repairs until spring, however, the field will remain open to tourists.

There are no security cameras monitoring the field so officials have limited information regarding the vandals and, although police have been notified, it will be up to the owners of the field to foot the bill.

If you build it, he will come.

She said she believes it will take an entire season for the field to be completely repaired.
