Caught On Camera: Arizona Police Chase Ends In Violent Crash

A driver led police on a chase across the Phoenix area on Wednesday before violently crashing in Tempe near the Arizona State University campus.

State troopers attempt to halt his progress by spreading spike strips acros the highway but he managed to swerve around them and kept going.

The driver continued down Scottsdale Road, which turns into Rural Road, and crashed into another vehicle at a high speed after driving through stop lights near Spence Avenue. Mitchell Timothy Taebel, 31, climbed out of the overturned SUV waved his arms and yelled at bystanders, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The driver of that vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

The suspect's vehicle started to spin before releasing a cloud of smoke.

It appeared that law enforcement had at least one person in custody.

He was reportedly on the phone with officials during the chase, insisting that he was a "sovereign citizen" not bound by the law.

A statement released by DPS said that the agency was 'aware that Mr. Taebel has anti-government views'.
