Flores rejects offer to manage Stoke

Flores explained his decision during a press conference for Espaynol today.

Balague, a well-respected Spanish journalist, claims the current Espanyol boss has already met with the club's board over a potential deal.

"I have everything here that I need", Flores said. "I'm well and quite happy with my situation".

"I belong to Espanyol".

'There is nothing to tell.

In any event, both Stoke's plans and O'Neill's contract situation with the FAI have been shrouded in confusion once again as Irish football's governing body await Stoke's next move.

Sanchez Flores is expected to fly to England this weekend and complete the formalities that will see his salary vastly increase even before performance-related bonuses, while Stoke have had a delegation in Barcelona for the last few days in order to convince him to take the post. "We feel happy. We are in a happy place and we don't want to break that up".

Flores, formerly Atletico Madrid manager, was sacked by Watford in 2016 despite taking the promoted side to 13th in the Premier League and the FA Cup semi-finals.

Martin O'Neill and Derby County manager Gary Rowett have been linked with the job vacancy, with the latter recently ruling himself out of a move after he signed a new deal with the Rams. The Potters, who now sit 18th in the Premier League table, face Manchester United on Monday night.
