Steve Bannon Plans to 'Fully Cooperate' with Robert Mueller

Bannon's departure, according to reports, was pushed by Rebekah Mercer, a major financial patron of Breitbart who was less than thrilled with the 64-year-old's comments regarding a certain meeting between Donald Trump, Jr. and a Russian lawyer during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump said Bannon had "lost his mind" and through Twitter branded him "Sloppy Steve".

Republican strategist Cheri Jacobus speculated on Thursday that Bannon was planning to crush Trump in the Russian Federation probe after the president was instrumental in getting Bannon fired from Breitbart and his Sirius XM radio program, as well as convincing the wealthy Mercer family to stop funding Bannon's campaigns. The controversy ensued following the release of a book that featured Bannon criticizing the president and two of his children.

"Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency. But he was talking about Don Jr.", Wolff told MSNBC. Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort was "unpatriotic" and even "treasonous", and Mueller will no doubt ask what he meant by those remarks.

The book, which has dominated USA news media since excerpts began to surface on Wednesday, depicts a chaotic White House led by a man who is mentally unstable and unfit for the job.

Officials in previous White House administrations have expressed surprise that either man would keep notes, saying that past investigations have shown that those detailed accounts can serve as potentially damaging evidence. "When you go after somebody's family in the manner in which he did ... it is repugnant, it is grotesque". Trump has been asking allies to choose between him and Bannon, and the choice among most has been clear.

"My clients do not intend to cease publication, no such retraction will occur and no apology is warranted", she said.

The House Intelligence Committee is one of three congressional panels investigating Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election and links to the Trump campaign.
