Mumbai Police arrests stalker of Sachin Tendulkar's daughter Sara

Mumbai: The Mumbai police arrested a 32-year-old man from West Bengal on Sunday for allegedly stalking and harassing batting legend Sachin Tendulkar's daughter Sara, 20. A complaint said that Maity had called up the Tendulkars' residence and threatened to kidnap Sara if his desire to marry her was not fulfilled. Soon after the incident, the matter was taken to the Mumbai Police Commissioner.

The family of the accused came out in his defence and said he was mentally unwell.

The Mumbai police team, which got a transit remand from a lower court at Haldia, is taking him to Mumbai for further investigation. The police will investigate this and will also look into how the accused managed to get the cricketer's home landline number, on which he had called. "Have never seen her in person", Dev Kumar Maiti told police. According to police reports, the stalker is identified as Debkumar Maity, who was stalking Sara tendulkar from a long time. Police has also recovered a diary from Debkumar's house where he scribbled Sachin Tendulkar's daughter's name proclaiming her as his wife. "He has been undergoing medical treatment for his condition for the last eight years". He had dialled Sachin's landline number several times.

Tendulkar's assistant had approached Bandra police on Friday and a case was registered in the regard.
