There is one victor of the massive mega millions drawing from Friday night.

Someone who bought a Mega Millions ticket in Florida won the fourth-largest jackpot in the 15-year history of the lottery game.

According to its website, only three Mega Millions jackpots have been larger than the most recent grand prize: a jackpot of $656 million in 2012; $648 million in 2013; and $536 million in 2016. As usual, the victor can choose the annuity or opt for the cash at $281 million, which is still a pretty penny as the sole victor.

Long odds have not halted the spread of "lottery fever", with people lining up to buy the $2-tickets at retailers, said Jeff Lenard, spokesman for the National Association of Convenience Stores, whose members sell about 60 percent of the nation's lottery tickets. Most winners opt for cash payouts, which would be $281 million for Mega Millions and $358.5 million for Powerball. The Powerball numbers will be drawn at 10:59 p.m. ET. That drawing will be Saturday night. Powerball has odds of 1 in 292.2 million.

The Florida Power Ball, which is up to $570 million, will be drawn on Saturday evening.

Both games are played in 44 states plus Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Puerto Rico participates in Powerball.

The jackpot resets to its new starting value of $40 million ($25 million cash) for the next drawing on Tuesday, January 9.
