Man 'smearing feces' causes United Airlines flight to be redirected to Alaska

"We received a report of a passenger who had messed up the bathrooms with his own feces", Anchorage Airport Police Lieutenant Joe Gamache said by telephone. He reportedly cooperated with the flight crew and was seated when the flight landed in Anchorage Thursday evening.

"United flight 895, traveling from Chicago to Hong Kong, diverted to Anchorage last night due to a disruptive passenger", the airline wrote in a statement.

The captain decided that the issue was enough to force a diversion and headed towards the Alaskan city.

According to KTVA-TV, United Airlines flight 895 had to make the emergency stop at Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage on January 4.

The passenger was reportedly cooperative when he was met by airport authorities and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in Anchorage.

The plane was grounded for maintenance.

Authorities announced that the alleged perpetrator has been taken to Providence Hospital to undergo a psychological evaluation and no charges have been placed at this time. The FBI says it is investigating the incident along with airport police.

Passengers on this United flight got an unpleasant surprise on their journey from Chicago to Hong Kong, according to police.
