Lingard and Lukaku give Man United late 2-0 win over Derby

United took on Derby tonight at Old Trafford in the FA Cup and it took an 83rd minute wonderstrike from the England worldwide to see them through to the fourth round.

The first half ended goalless, as the visitors held their own at Old Trafford.

United still lacked inspiration after the break, so manager Jose Mourinho introduced strikers Lukaku and Anthony Martial off the bench for Mkhitaryan and Mata.

Derby finds itself in good position to secure promotion to the Premier League, as the Rams sit second in the Championship with 49 points.

The away side's only challenging attempt on target came straight afterwards, as Johnny Russell's cross from the left found the head of Marcus Olsson, and Sergio Romero had to work to direct the effort over the crossbar.

Lingard effectively won it for United in the 84th minute, however, when the Englishman netted his eighth goal in his last 10 appearances - finding the top corner from distance - to break Derby's hearts in the latter stages.

Ashley Young is suspended after being slapped with a three-game ban for an elbow against Southampton while Antonio Valencia isn't due to resume training until next week following a hamstring injury.

Scott Carson then dealt comfortably with a Pogba drive from the edge of the box before Ander Herrera headed wide from close range from a Marcus Rashford free-kick.

Lukaku was next to head wide on 55 minutes, before Thomas Lawrence forced a diving save from Romero.

Lingard and Lukaku spared the home side's blushes, but questions will remain over United's ability to get over the line in games, with the 2-0 win over Everton last time out ending a run of four matches without a victory - including a shock 2-1 defeat to Bristol City in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

Lukaku played the ball into Lingard's path, and the attacking midfielder hit an unstoppable shot into the top-right corner.
