Flights, trains delayed as dense fog continues in Delhi

The dense fog resulted in pollutants getting trapped in the air. Poor visibility also disrupted train services.

As many as 64 trains have been delayed and 24 have been rescheduled.

As many as 34 domestic and worldwide flights were delayed while three flights were cancelled due to the fog.

As the National Capital Region and other parts of North India continue to reel under dense fog, the Indian Railways has begun installing a fog safety device on its trains to ensure there are fewer delays.

The sky will remain clear during the day, an India Meteorological Department official said. The worst affected were domestic flights arriving in the city as 13 of them were delayed.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.4 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the maximum temperature settled at 18.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average.

"Saturday will have moderate fog with the same minimum and maximum temperature as that of Friday". But despite adverse weather conditions, Republic Day parade rehearsals were held at Rajpath in the early hours of Thursday morning. The maximum temperature was likely to hover around 19 degrees Celsius.
