Two arrested in murder of lesbian couple, children in NY

Police in Troy, N.Y., said they arrested two people connecting to the slaying of four people, including two children, found dead in a basement apartment.

Law enforcement was investigating the deaths as homicides.

Police believe the men killed 36-year-old Shanta Myers, her partner, 22-year-old Brandi Mells, and Myers' two children, 11-year-old Jeremiah Myers and 5-year-old Shanise Myers. The building's property manager discovered the bodies six days later after relatives anxious none of the family returned any phone calls. Authorities say the murders occurred December 21. James W. White and Justin C. Mann each have been charged with one count of first-degree, which carries a penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole, along with counts of second degree murder. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

"I don't need to tell you how good it feels to have these two defendants in custody", said Troy police chief John Tedesco at a news conference.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to set up a scholarship and provide resources for Isaiah Smith, Myers' surviving 16-year-old son.
