Inspired to hear my name from PM Modi: KAS topper Anjuman Bashir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reached out to youngsters who would soon become eligible to vote, calling them "New Indian Voters" as he addressed those born in the 21st century in his radio address on the year's last day.

Referring to them as "My New India Youth", the PM asked them to come forward and deliberate on how this New India - free from the poison of casteism, communalism, terrorism and corruption; free from filth and poverty - would be formed. The guiding force of this New India, he said, will be "Peace, Unity and Goodwill".

He also said: "It is now time that a system is created where newest development opportunities are easily accessible for the youth of New India as they turn 18", assured Modi in his radio address. "However, I would like to suggest that single women pilgrims be excluded from this system", he said.

"Almost 1300 Muslim women, from Kerala to North India, have applied to travel on Haj without a male guardian after we have scrapped that rule". Otherwise, she can not travel, it was discriminatory. Our Ministry of Minority Affairs issued corrective measures and we ameliorated this restriction by phasing out a tradition that had been in practice for the past seventy years. "Today, he is an inspiration not only for Jammu and Kashmir but India", he said. "I was amazed by spirit they had, the enthusiasm in their hearts and the dreams they nurtured". Anjuman's ancestral house was destroyed by militants in 1990.

"As a child, Anjum never gave up hope". He chose a different path, a path of serving the people, he said. "He overcame the adverse situation and scripted his own success story". "You will not just be granting yourselves the right to vote but will be making yourselves the founders of the tomorrow's India", Modi said.

During his Mann Ki Baat address, the PM also mentioned that head of all 10 ASEAN countries will be the chief guests at the Republic Day celebrations which is a matter of great pride for India.
