Police were called to a home in the city of Long Branch, about 55 miles (90 kilometers) south of NY, at 11:43 pm Sunday in response to a report of shots fired and found four people dead, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said in a statement. The Monmouth County prosecutor's office said police made the discovery after a report of shots fired in the 600-block of Wall Street at 11:43 p.m. Sunday. He's expected to make a court appearance on January 2.

The 16-year-old killed his father Steven Kologi, 44, mother Linda Kologi, 42, sister Brittany Kologi, 18, and family friend, Mary Schultz, 70, of Ocean Township, Gramiccioni said. The alleged shooter's grandfather and younger brother were unharmed.

"It's a terribly tragic incident", Gramiccioni said.

One minute later, according to the prosecutor's office, the Long Branch police and Monmouth County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene to discover the four victims, shot dead. Anyone who can provide further information about this devastating tragedy is urged to call Detective Andrea Tozzi at 800-533-7443, or Detective Michael Verdadiero at 732-222-1000.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the suspect because he is underage.
